Yes, they are a little cheesy, but Syphon Entities (also spelled Siphon Entities?) are great monsters. In an article of Rifter, there was an entire series of fake rune weapons that a grifting mage created by summoning these entities and channeling them into mundane weapons. That dead tree can absolutely be a good home if when the entity finds it, it's already a meeting place for gullible cultists.
